Important Parts Of A Combine Harvester And Its Functioning

The combine harvester is agriculture machinery that includes cutting, threshing, cleaning, and storage functions together. Different components made up a combine harvester and contribute different functions to each harvester.

In general , combine harvester components include a Cutter head, Conveyor, Chassis, Thresher, Grain tank, and Unloading pipe.

The cutter head is one part of combine harvester which include a reel, cutter bar, feeding auger, divider and etc. The cutter head’s function is to cut crops from the field. The width of the cutter head influences the working efference of the harvester. In our harvester, we provide 2200mm and 2580mm wide cutter heads. For 2200mm cutter heads can feed 5Kg crops per second while 2580mm wide cutter heads can feed 5.5-6.0Kg crops per second. Normally the wider the cutter head, the larger the feeding capacity the harvester does.

The next combine harvester components are conveyor, the function of the conveyor part of combine harvester is to connect the cutter head with a thresher.

The conveyor part consists of a shaft, chain, floating roll, chain rack, transmission, and case. The convey deliver the material cut by the header evenly to the thresher, and the speed is match with cutter head rotation speed, which is normally at 3-5m/s. After the crops go through the thresher, they will go into the thresher for threshing and cleaning.

The Thresher parts of the combine harvester are like the stomachs of humans, it threshes the crops from the straw and cleans the crops from dust and dirt. Thresher components of a combine harvester consist of a thresher drum, concave sieve, cleaning fan, and vibration sieve.

With the rotation of the threshing drum and hitting with the concave sieve, the crops will be threshed from the straw and fall onto the vibration sieve.

Cleaning fan

The cleaning fan creates an airflow that can blow the straw and impurities from the crops. Under the coordination of the vibration sieve, cleaning crops will be selected and conveyed to the grain tank through augers.

The grain tank part of combine harvester is to store the cleaning crops and make preparation for unloading after harvesting.

After cleaning crops being selected from the threshing drum, it will go through the auger and convoyed into the grain tank. Normally there are two types of grain tank, big grain tank and small grain tank.

Bigger Grain Tank Design

A big grain tank allows crops to be unloaded through an unloading pipe without unloading manually. Our combine harvester is with a 1600L big grain tank, which can load around 1000KG crops per time.

Small grain tank also called sack type, which allows workers to do manual unloading during harvesting. When the harvester working, unloading workers can stand near the small grain tank and unload the crops into sacks during the harvester’s moving.

Normally small grain tank is widely used in Southeast Asia area such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia and etc. While big grain tank model is largely used in other countries as it is more convincing for harvester operators and does not need extra labor in terms of unloading jobs.

The chassis part of a combine harvester works as a human’s foot, this combines harvester components to enable the machine to move forward/backward and turn in different directions.

Our combine harvester is a track-type model, which consists of track and rollers. Track Chassis structure generates less ground pressure compared to tire/wheel type during machine moving, which allows the machine to move on the muddy field without getting stuck.

The gearbox and HST transmission system allow the machine to move smoothy, moreover, HST (Hydraulic static transmission) allows the machine to move forward and backward with one handle without changing gears, which allows easier operation during machine work.
